If You Need Me I'll Be at the Cheer Market

Continuing the series of silly headlines, BBC today states that "Central bank moves cheer markets".

It took me a moment to figure out what 'cheer markets' are exactly and why they need moving.

Silly News and Even More Astrology

A news item at BBC: Arrow fired through family's cat. The fact that someone would shoot an arrow at a living creature (excepting the need to feed) is disturbing enough. But what I find most disturbing in this article is that someone is actually capable of calling their pet Marmite.

Carrying on from my previous post: at the moment I'm leaning towards leaving out all the asteroids apart from Ceres. There should be some grounds for including a particular object in a chart, and, frankly, most of the asteroids just don't stand out enough, astronomically speaking. If I were to include them, what about all the other similar objects? Ceres, as said, is now classified as a dwarf planet, like Pluto, and is also the closest of the dwarf planets, so there seem to be sufficient grounds for including it if one is to include Pluto as well. If I include the lunar north node, but leave out Lilith, which, frankly, is not that widely used and a little hard to interpret as well, that gives me 12 objects, which seems like a fitting number considering there are 12 signs and 12 houses as well.

A third question I forgot to mention in my previous post is the size of the aspect orbs. Honestly, I haven't seen two sources yet that would agree on them. So... I'll just have to pick average numbers that seem reasonable...

OMG, i can haz relijun

Ok, this is one of the wackiest things I've seen in ages. Much of the Bible has actually been translated into lolspeak.

Now, I guess there might be people who could find this offensive. However, I find it hard to believe that someone would go through such a huge amount of work if they had anti-Christian sentiments. Parody is one of the best forms of tribute, I think. (This also applies to one of my favourite movies, Dogma.)

It should be mentioned that I don't consider myself a Christian these days. Quite the contrary, I've found other philosophies that appeal to me more. However, I have the greatest respect towards, and interest in, all religions. In fact, I don't think I would find this site so funny if I was at all anti-Christian.

I Think I'll Have a Slice of Metatron Instead

I don't think I've mentioned Engrish.com in my blog. It's one of the few websites I check on an almost daily basis. The pictures posted are frequently hilarious, like today's God fillets.

I finally got around to testing the X-Arcade with two players. That's the trouble when your siblings have all grown up. There's never anyone around the house. I'm the oldest, but I guess I'm the only one whose idea of a good time is staying home and playing video games. Anyways, it's a whole lot of fun. Most arcade style games are at their best as multiplayer games. Although fighting games are my favourites of the arcade genre, because of their depth, I think I actually prefer co-operative games, like Metal Slug, when playing multiplayer. This is mostly because, no matter how much I love playing them, I generally suck big time at games which require skill and reflexes.

Wishing You a Happy Solstice

Wow. I haven't blogged for a whole week. Well, here's another silly headline from BBC: "Key ocean mission goes into orbit". Ok, first thought, have they got their ups and downs slightly mixed up? Not much water up there in orbit, as far as I know. Ok, not the most clever joke of all times, I know. At least it's not news about violence in Zimbabwe, child-abusing cannibal cults and all that other stuff that just makes you want to crawl under your bed and not come out. Except, I've got my X-Arcade now, so there's no chance I'll do that anytime soon.

I'm spending a lazy Midsummer at home. It's raining. Wasted much of the past week playing arcade games, mostly shmups, and a bit of Tetris and Puzzle Bobble. I'm not a fan of puzzle games, really, but some are just too huge classics to disregard.

Another Bit of Random Silliness, and Not so Silliness

Another title on the BBC news website. 'Is it time to reconsider GM food?'

Yes, definitely. Feed us poor GMs. We'll be much happier and have more energy for running games.

I've got a headache. I don't like it. And I've been stuffing myself all weekend with cake, crisps, chocolate and pork, and not feeling any better for it. Now I just want to get a nice cuppa and sit with my eyes closed for a moment, possibly whilst listening to some melancholy music. I like melancholy. Melancholy is nice. Not quite sad, certainly not depressing, just... beautiful, and just right for those moments when you don't have the energy to be peppy and cheerful.

Waiting for the Apocalypse

When I see a headline like "Skynet military launch postponed" on BBC, I go, huh? What the hell? This is really spooky. Are nuclear holocaust and robot killing machines really just around the corner? Then I remember that Skynet is also the name of the UK military satellite communication system. A quick glance at Wikipedia tells me that it was originally created in the late sixties, years before Terminator. I wonder if the writers of Terminator were aware of the system? Most likely not, it being a UK system and all. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have named their evil AI after a real life military system. I know I wouldn't. Or at least if I would, I'd make sure it really was a fictional version of the system it was named after, and not a namesake in another country.

Still, nomen est omen and so forth. Maybe one day the real Skynet, in existence since long before the creators of Terminator thought up their futuristic vision, will become sentient and destroy the world...

Something Wrong With This World Pt 4

I'm just watching the Eurovision Song Contest semi-final. And I honestly can't believe it. No, it's not any worse than any other year. But somehow every year it manages to be a shock.

Does no one in this world have any notion of taste any more? As always, awful, tacky dance numbers take turns with unbelievably boring ballads and the odd very badly written comedy number. Many of the performers sing in English, and invariably pronounce it very badly.

This, more than anything else, proves that I must be living in another universe altogether. No one, I mean no one, could actually like these performances, can they?

Edit: There's a nightingale singing outside. Now that's more like my world.

Something Wrong With This World Pt 3

I was just reading an article at BBC about a royal wedding. The wedding itself doesn't interest me much, but there was an interesting tidbit included. Apparently, since 1701, an heir to the throne who marries a Catholic is banned from the throne. So much for freedom of religion, then. This kind of anachronism shouldn't be possible in a modern society, no matter how steeped in tradition their system of royalty is.

Look at me, I'm blogging. About random, pointless things, too, like a real blogger (am I being sarcastic or just pointing out the irony? I don't know). Hopefully I'll get back with real content before too long, but hey, at least I'm alive.
